In the book by Robert L. Leahy, Stephen J. F. Holland and Lata K. McGinn titled Treatment Plans and Interventions for Depression and Anxiety Disorders is a chapter devoted to Cognition (chapter 10) with lists of cognitive distortions. |
Although this book is about mental disorders, the cognitive distortions are common amoug "normal" people as well. The difference between people not requiring therapy and those that do is really a matter of degree. We all suffer from cognitive distortions. Left unchallenged, cognitive distortions can destroy the opportunity to think clearly and discern the truth that is in front of us. Over time these distorted patterns of thinking can strengthen and become barriers to accomplishing ones purposes in life. That is why it is important to be diligent in clearing cognitive distortion so that our choices become clear. |
